Dear Coffee Lover,

Sturbridge Coffee Roasters opened in 2004. We're dedicated to roasting fine coffee beans for our customers and custom blending to your taste. We started out in historic Sturbridge, Massachusetts. In this small space we roasted our beans and serve delicious coffee drinks to locals and tourists. We quickly discovered that our customers also wanted a place to relax with their coffee. This led us to open The SCR Cafe in Southbridge, Massachusetts, just 5 miles down the road. Here, we offer seating for 40 guests, light lunches, evening entertainment, wireless internet service and a place for local artists to showcase their works.

Please stop by to visit, we look forward to seeing you!

News Update: February 2007

After an extensive search, we’ve got a new distributor who carries a large line of Fair Trade green beans.  We’ll soon be carrying Fair Trade coffees that support small farmers with fair wages.  Check the “Order Coffee” page regularly for updates.

OK, so FINALLY the new roaster is fired up and running!!!!  Come down to the café and ask to see it!!!  And just in the nick of time.  We received our first fundraising order and we never could have made it with the old micro-roaster.  We’ll still use it as a back up and for small custom orders, but the new Deidrich IR7 is a great addition to the SCR Team!

Well, like all the other blogs I look at, I'll start this off with..."well, it's been a while since I last updated this section."

Truth is, nothing much has happened since I last wrote.  John and I went on a vaction.  John needed the rest, I needed the shopping.  I wouldn't recommend a cruise if you're looking for a really fun time.  The ship was very sedate and waiting in line for meals and to get on and off the ship was no fun, but the water was very blue and the taquila in Cozumel was great!

The new roaster is still waiting to be hooked up in the Cannery.  As with all construction projects, this one is going over time and over budget, but I'm sure it'll be done eventually.  In the meantime, we're still roasting in the micro-roaster and have started taking on small commercial accounts.

Entertainment bookings are going well and we're already booked for most of April.  Artist bookings are good too, we're already booked through November.  Check out the calendar page for the schedule.

Yipee! The new roaster has arrived finally.  It's sitting in the cannery waiting to be installed.  We'll be getting some photos on-line soon.

News Update: December 1, 2005

Well, we've been on what seems to be a constant rollercoaster since we got back from Idaho.  The trip was great, we learned a lot about our new roaster and found all the penny slot machines in the upper Northwest.  Like you, Thanksgiving was busy but great and filling and now we're just waiting for that new roaster to arrive.

We've started making some flavored coffees and will be expanding that line soon.

News Update: November 9, 2005

On Saturday, November 12 we're going to Idaho to check out the new roaster at the Deidrich factory.  Billy thinks we should just have it shipped and spend the airfare on a trip to the islands instead.  Even so, we're looking forward to learning how the IR-7 model works and hope the cafe will still be standing when we get back...be kind to the staff!!!!!

News Update: October 28, 2005

On October 31, 2005 we will be moving out of our original store at 425 Main Street in Sturbridge and begin work on a new roasting facility in the Cannery Complex on Crane Street in Southbridge, Massachusetts.  We're purchasing a new Deidrich Coffee Roaster that just won't fit in the Sturbridge space.  This will enable us to roast more coffee in less time AND we'll also be able to start offering flavored coffees also!

The Cannery complex is an exciting development that will house a caberet theatre, brew pub, antique market, 4 star restaurant, bakery, and our NEW roaster with coffee bar.  Construction is expected to take a while and the building won't be open to the public until next year, but Sturbridge Coffee Roasters will be roasting in The Cannery starting in November 2005, so there should be no interuption in the fine coffee you've come to expect from us.

For our loyal Sturbridge customers, we're looking for an outlet in Sturbridge that will carry our freshly brewed coffee for you.  If you have any suggestions, please contact us.  In the meantime, please visit the SCR Cafe at 210 Hamilton Street in Southbridge OR purchase your coffee beans at Hyland Brewery on Arnold Road in Sturbridge.
